PNG Kumuls coach Michael Marum praised his men for an impressive performance in their 26-14 win over Fiji Bati in their Pacific test in Sydney on Saturday.
Channel 9 commentators described the Kumuls first-half performance as the greatest ever seen on the back of high completion rates which saw them take a 26-4 lead at half time.
Marum, a former Kumul who played four tests for his country, agreed with the comments from the Channel 9’s Joel Caine, Andrew Johns, Darren Lockyer and Scott Sattler.
“It was the first time for a Kumul team to come up with that kind of first half,” Marum said.
“I think everyone in the team did their jobs and that made us proud of our effort,” Marum said.
“Fiji had a lot of experience players but we played our hearts out.
“Fiji were not too familiar with us so we surprised them.
“We prepared well because we knew their players.”
Marum praised the halves combination of Lachlan Lam and Watson Boas.
“It was Lachlan’s second test for PNG and his kicking game was outstanding,” Marum said.
“He formed a good combination with Watson and that’s what we want from both of them.”
