IJIVITARI MP Richard Masere has crossed over to the Opposition from Government for the sake of his people, he says.
Masere told a press conference later yesterday that his people had been talking to him and sending him messages to join the Opposition and he did it for them.
“Over the last couple of weeks, we have been wrestling with that decision and today I have made the decision to come and join the team in Laguna because I strongly believe that as a young leader to change the course of this country, the opportunity is now and today,” Masere said.
“More importantly, the country is at a point where important decisions must be made and as leaders we have to make those vital decisions and hence my decision today to come to Laguna and give my support to the team that’s here.
“There are likeminded leaders still in government. We need to make the change and today by coming here it is demonstrating that need for change,” Masere said.
He appealed other young leaders who were still wrestling with the decision to make the move for a change.
“I would like to appeal to some of the younger leaders who are still wrestling with the decision, you are leaders chosen by the your people. That decision rests entirely on you and I’d like to encourage you to come and join the likeminded people that are here who have made a decision.
“The decision is not based on influence from this camp. I have never received a phone call from Tari-Pori MP James Marape this decision is entirely made by me and I believe if a decision that’s in the best interest of the country and that’s why I’m here today.”
Marape in welcoming Masere to Laguna said leaders were making up their own minds to move into the alternate government structure.
“The country is in safe hands, these young generations of leaders are thinking correctly. If I don’t become prime minister I don’t care, I care less of becoming PM, all I care about is preparing next generation of leaders who can have faith in themselves and in the country and take this nation to the next level.”
