Mask dancers steal show

 DIVINE Word University students celebrated the country’s 38th independence anniversary with a week of activities culminating in a flag-raising ceremony at the Madang campus yesterday.

The flag-raising ceremony began with a procession of provincial groups led by the Kaiam mask dancers from Bogia (rght) which began at the Arnold Janssen Hall and ended at the main administration building.

The Kaiam mask dancers, who are relatives of DWU staff, were in town for the Madang Festival and were invited to the campus.

Students in their provincial groups raised the provincial flags in unison with the national flag raised by the student leaders.

The students along with staff also sang the national song and the national anthem and recited the national pledge.

The week of activities included musical performances, films and sports.
