Matane: Sir Lucas was honest

 FORMER Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane has expressed his condolences to the family of Sir Lucas Waka who died last Friday.

He said Sir Lucas, from Bola village in West New Britain, was the first from that province to receive a knighthood and was a great leader.

Sir Paulias said he was very close to Sir Lucas, a former regional MP for WNB. He was first  elected into Parliament in 1977,” Sir Paulias said.

“He held ministerial positions in the government before he stepped down from national politics in 1997 to contest the Talasea local level government elections. He left politics in 2007.

“Sir Lucas has contributed so much to this country and was an honest and hardworking man.

“He was always clear in his thinking.”

Sir Paulias challenged Papua New Guineans to follow Sir Lucas’ footsteps as “he was an excellent leader in everything he did”.
