Maternity ward gets new kits
The National, Friday March 28th, 2014
PATIENTS and staff at the Port Moresby General Hospital maternity ward are the first to receive health kits, donated by Ela Motors yesterday.
The kits included 50 hospital beds, mattresses, tables and other medical equipment to help boost services at the ward.
Ela Motors’ chief executive and director David Purcell presented the kits.
Purcell was overwhelmed by the conditions of the ward but was glad the company’s donation would ease some of the constraints.
He said the maternity ward was the birth place of every ruler or important person in the country and should always be the first priority
“Mothers are the backbone of every country and I’m so happy to be here donating kits that will help mothers to deliver,” he said.
Purcell said since last year, the company had put in 200 health kits for four major hospitals around the country and this year they began with the Port Moresby General Hospital.
He said the other three major hospitals that would receive the kits were Angau Memorial Hospital, in Lae, Mt Hagen General Hospital and Nonga Base Hospital, in Rabaul.
Receiving the health kits, the hospital’s chief executive, Grant Muddle, thanked the company for its timely donation.
