THE Maiari Eagles shut down Pumas 18-8 in Round 19 of Port Moresby Rugby League competition last Saturday.

The Eagles scored three converted tries. Michael Mawe scored 10 of his side’s 18 points through a try and three conversions.

Pumas’ points came from centre Wero Tii who bagged a double.

Eagles led 6-4 at halftime in a bruising first 40.

Pumas put themselves under unneccessary pressure  with silly errors, especially dropped balls, that kept them from making use of opportunities deep in enemy territory.

Eagles team manager Simon Maima said after the match that his charges were picking up form at the right stage of the season with seven more games remaining before the top eight play-offs.

Maima said the Eagles would need to win at least three of their remaining matches to secure a play-off berth. However he added that they would treat all matches as must-win games in order to make it to their first finals of the PRL competition.
