MAYUR Resources has stepped in as a backer of Gulf Isou by sponsoring the club’s man of the match prizes throughout the Digicel Cup season.
Isou winger Gabby Taune and veteran Roger Laka have been the prize recipients so far in the 2021 edition of the country’s premier rugby league competition.
Gulf Provincial Sports Trust chief executive Lawrence Lahari told The National last week that the initiative would motivate the players to do their best in every game.
“Mayur Resources is pleased to announce (its sponsorship of the man of the match prize for the Gulf Isou in) the PNG National Rugby League Competition, the Digicel Cup,” he said.
“The round-one kick-off saw Isou face Central Dabaris.
“Following their 8-all draw at fulltime, Taune was named as Mayur Resources’ man of the match.
“Mayur Resources’ sponsorship of the man of the match prize will provide a tremendous boost for the players.”
Isou chairman Mai Ori was pleased with the initiative and thanked Mayur Resources for partnering the franchise.
“It has impacted the players, there is noticeable change in the players’ attitude, there is drive, it lifted their morale and spirits to perform,” he told The National.
Although the Gulf side were aiming to earn wins in their first two matches to dedicate to their former head coach, Nigel Hukula, they settled for a Dabaris draw and lost to Mendi Muruks. The Bagelo Solien-coached side will now look to earn their first win when they face reigning champions Hela Wigmen in round three at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Sunday.
