Mediation ends in death after officer assaulted

A MAN was killed and an auxiliary police officer injured during a mediation to solve a marriage dispute in Goilala, Central, police commander Chief Superintendent Sibron Papoto says.
“The man was killed on Tuesday with a bush knife after he allegedy chopped the hands of an auxiliary police officer near Tapini station,” he said.
“The man was killed when a mob took revenge for injuring the police officer with a knife over the weekend.
“The dead man’s relatives retaliated and burnt down houses of the suspects.” Popoto said Goilala MP William Samb and the provincial administration helped charter a plane to fly 20 police officers from Port Moresby to Tapini to contain the situation which remains tense.
“The injured police officer and the deceased were evacuated to the Port Moresby General Hoispital.
The officer has been admitted for his injuries.
Three suspects involved in the killing were arrested in Tapini and brought to Port Moresby. They are now been detained at the 15-Mile police station.
