A MEETING between officials from the European Union (EU) and Department of Foreign Affairs included discussions on trade and fisheries in Papua New Guinea.

The second PNG-EU political outreach dialogue took place in Port Moresby recently and aimed to strengthen bilateral political relations and discuss both parties’ foreign policy perspectives for this year.

Discussions included an overview of EU aid portfolio in PNG, human rights and gender or trade and fisheries.

Possible multilateral cooperation on global issues of common interest, such as climate change and the Post-2015 Development Agenda were also on the agenda.

It was agreed that these discussions are very valuable and that regular mutual updates will be very useful.

PNG was then invited to join its European counterparts at the EU headquarters in Belgium for further discussions on political, aid and trade matters.

“Listening and understanding each other is crucial for us in our ongoing efforts to strengthen the PNG-EU relations,” EU Ambassador Martin Dihm said.
