Melanesian Institute open day promotes courses

MELANESIAN Training Institute (MTI), a privately run institution in East New Britain, hosted its fourth open-day exhibition at Vunamami Community Centre in Kokopo last week.
Each of the institute departments had their booth exhibitions from various business and technical training programmes displayed by trainers and their trainees to the public.
It was an ideal opportunity for those interested to get first-hand information about the different courses offered by the institution.
Parents, guardians and sponsors of the trainees were also there to attend the event and witness the skills and knowledge being imparted to their children.
MTI director Esley August told The National that the institution was small but had a massive output with many of its trainees working with industries while others had secured apprenticeship programmes and were now tradesmen.
“Melanesian Training Institute is now very popular on the market today,” August said.
East New Britain deputy Governor Cosmas Bauk told the students that the status of the institution as a “privately owned institution” did not diminish their purpose as a partner of the Government in terms of service delivery and general economic development in the province.
The deputy governor said the Government will have to give continuous and necessary support to private education providers.
