I REFER to your report about the state of affairs in Menyamya (April 11).

It is sad, disgusting and shameful to see the photo and read the story.

Despite the member not delivering services during his first term, he was re-elected for another term.

The story tells us that there is no political and bureaucratic leadership, and management in the dis-trict while the silent majority of the public servants and people are suffering from deteriorating essential government services.

Provisions of basic services such as good roads are the right of the people and they should not be denied that.

Where has the money allocated for the district gone to?

This is a crime against humanity and the MP should be prosecuted because the people’s lifeline has been severely affected.

The leader and his senior advi-sers must be held accountable for the non-existence of essential government services and for the failure to lead the people properly

when the rest of the country is moving forward.

The leader ought to vacate his office and allow for a fresh election to be conducted because he has let

the people down.

The annoying thing is he was last seen in the district during his election victory declaration.

Laws governing the roles and responsibilities of leaders as well

as the leadership code must be reviewed and amended to ensure non-performing politicians be disqualified by law from holding public office.

He cannot continue to hide in the office and blame the innocent public servants in the district for the lack of services.

The matter is serious and urgent attention is needed from the relevant authorities to free the people from suffering in the rural district.
