POLICE in Wewak have arrested three men from Wom village for being in possession of stolen items.

Acting Wewak police station commander Inspector James Baugen said the men were arrested during a dawn raid conducted by members of the Mobile Squad from Lae last Tuesday.

The mobile unit is in Wewak with a team of detectives from Port Moresby investigating the alleged rape, arson, unlawful wounding and assault by Wewak police officers at Kawanumbo village while looking for escaped prisoners.

Baugen said police recovered three laptops and solar panels which were reportedly stolen during the raid at Kawanumbo.

Meanwhile, the general law and order situation in Wewak was relatively quiet last week.
