Men dressed as police steal K100,000 from Kwikila station: Police
NINE men dressed in police uniforms allegedly stole K100,000 in cash from Titan Trading at Kwikila Station outside Port Moresby on Sunday, police say.
Central police commander Superintendent Sibron Papoto said the nine were in mobile squad uniforms and allegedly armed with four factory-made pistols. They held up a Chinese shop.
He said four were arrested the same day at Gumugau village when they were heading to Hula in a vehicle. The other five remained at large.
“It is a serious matter. How did the police uniform go out to the criminals to use and where did they get all of them from?” Papoto said.
He said the suspects were using a vehicle when they were at Kwikila Station.
It appeared they had a standby vehicle somewhere along the highway and split into two groups.
He said five travelled to Gabagaba village and took with them the police uniforms and pistols.
Four men went to Hula but were caught by police.
“The money was taken to the authorities and police will make a serious investigation to capture the five and find out where they got the uniforms and pistols from,” Papoto said.
Police are confident that their investigations will solve the case.
