Men fighting over land told to get title

THE Mt Hagen District Court has advised two-men fighting over the rental of a property on state land in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, to apply for the land’s title with the Lands Department.
“It’s still the state land and if you all want it then make formal application to the Lands Department,” magistrate Donald Joseph said.
Joseph was presiding over a matter filed by Paul Akil to restrain Tepi Kunjil and his agents from threatening him and his family.
Akil told the court that Kunjil and his agents issued threats over a property located on state land in Mt Hagen which was rented by Paul Wama.
Both men used to share the rental from tenant Wama after a lease agreement was signed between the three. The lease will expire in June.
Akil said since March 30, 2018, Kunjil stopped sharing rental payments with him.
Joseph granted the restraining order sought by Akil and told Wama to continue to pay the rental.
He said that the rental should be equally shared by Kunjil and Akil based on their agreement.
He told the three men to resolve the problem out-of-court, but if they didn’t, the rental would be paid into the court’s account until the matter is dealt with.
He also warned the three men that any one breaching the orders would be arrested and charged with contempt of court.
