A THREE-MATCH series for the national men’s train-on squad who are based in Lae and Port Moresby will still be staged, says the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA).
PNGFA general secretary Pius Letenge told The National yesterday that arrangements were underway for the squad to resume training under coaches Bob Morris and Erickson Komeng in Lae and Port Moresby respectively.
The series opener was supposed to be played as a curtain raiser to the Women’s National Soccer League (WNSL) semifinals, but the match would now be staged at a later date following the cancellation of the finals.
“The cancellation of the WNSL finals should not stop the series, the matches will go ahead as originally planned,” Letenge said.
The two teams (Red and Black) kicked off training in February at the PNGFA Academy at 11-Mile outside Lae and Port Moresby’s PNG Football Stadium before the nationwide Covid-19 restrictions on sports ceased all activities in March.
With approval from the National Pandemic Control Centre and PNG Sports Foundation (PNGSF), Letenge said the teams would resume training prior to the confirmation of dates for the series.
