Mermaids overthrow defending champs
THE Sparrows beat the Mermaids 47-39 in the match of the round in Port Moresby Netball’s premier division over the weekend.
The game featured the two in-form teams in the competition going head to head in a highly anticipated match.
Both have a good mixture of experienced players and talented youngsters.
Missed opportunities by Sparrows shooters allowed the Mermaids to pull away and secure an eight-point victory.
Mermaids were coming off two consecutive wins and felt that they had what it took to defeat the Sparrows, who were undefeated coming into the game.
Sparrows, on the other hand, were keen on vanquishing another title contender to further stamp their dominance in the competition.
Mermaids brought their A game to the contest to become the first team to defeat the defending champions this season.
In the other premier division matches, Telstars defeated Aroma Coast 57-35, Paramana beat Mona 64-42 and Rebels put down Raukele 63-47.
