Message of love at thanksgiving ceremony
The National, Tuesday 17th April 2012
LUTHERAN church members should change the church by practising loving and giving instead of the traditional notion of loving and receiving.
Elder and lawyer Kelly Naru was speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony in the biggest village in the Salamaua local level government area of Huon Gulf district last Sunday.
The event was held to raise money for a permanent house to be built for the resident pastor of Kisiwaga parish.
The congregation gave almost K20,000.
Naru said the church and its members had grown accustomed to the benefits of receiving the gospel and materials from the loving act of givers starting from the early German missionaries who founded the church in Morobe.
He told the people that his giving ministry was founded years ago based on God’s love when he was still a young lawyer and elder in Port Moresby.
“Love is the greatest commandment, and to love is to give and God will bless those who give,” Naru said.
As part of the event, Naru gave K10,000 to the parish and K1,000 each to the Sunday school and mothers’ group
and K2,000 to a youth group.
Neighbouring villages of Asini and Buakap were given K10,000 each.
Awasa, Lutu and Gwado were given K1,000 each.
The pastor’s house is part of the latest developments undertaken by
the Busamang community, who apart from having one of the best primary schools in rural Morobe, are looking forward to opening their new health centre later this year.
