THE Morobe Football Association (MFA) says it remains upbeat about kicking off this year’s competition despite no advice from the sport’s national governing body yet.
MFA president Panu Shungai told The National yesterday that the two-week extension of the state of emergency (SOE) in Parliament on Tuesday was something for clubs and players to consider when adjusting to the “new normal”.
“With the SOE extended for another two weeks, we are uncertain on what we can do next because we don’t know for sure if it will be lifted,” he said.
“The Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) is yet to say what associations are supposed to do so we are just waiting and hoping to see if something good comes up.
“Teams have been patient and are eager to get back on the field but we have our respective heads in Government and sports that will have the final say on how and when we should resume our activities.
“We a looking to have a meeting on Friday to discuss a way forward.
“We have received good feedback from clubs and although we aren’t allowed to be meet in groups, we know that they are interested in getting back but we can’t do much at this time.”
Shungai said spots in the A and B leagues were almost filled for this season along with junior and women’s divisions.
Meanwhile, attempts to get comments from PNGFA in regard to the resumption of football activities were unsuccessful.
