Petroleum and Energy Minister and Kavieng MP Ben Micah has called on the PNG men’s national team to  play with pride and have the country at heart as they take on OFC champions Tahiti in an “all-too-important” game this afternoon at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
Micah, who is patron of the PNG football supporters club, said this is a very important ‘must-win” game as it will give PNG the opportunity to confirm a top-two placing in their pool and secure a placing in the third stage qualifying round for the Fifa World Cup Russia 2018.
He said he was happy with the team’s performance against New Caledonia but wanted the team to lift the tempo in the Tahiti game.
“You are all football players. On the pitch, it’s 90 minutes football, but the team that plays well together and have the passion, pride and is hungry to win will win,” Micah said.
“You are carrying our flag and pride. I wish you the very best.”
Micah stepped in to support the men’s national team with his firm, Micah Sports Limited (MSL), sponsoring a fund-raising dinner and giving all players weekly payments, securing Jacks of PNG as the major sponsor of the team attire, and Hodava Hotel as the team’s accommodation partner.
Micah said the team had the potential to go further and wanted them to dream big.
