Military police personnel from the PNG Defence Force will be involved in enforcing Covid-19 measures for 28 days in Port Moresby under the National Isolation Strategy, PNGDF commander Major-General Gilbert Toropo says.
“I have approved National Capital District (NCD) Governor Powes Parkop’s request for military police support for Covid-19 awareness in the city,” he said.
Maj-Gen Toropo said this yesterday after Parkop asked him, in a letter dated March 17, for 30 military police personnel to assist in Covid-19 awareness.
Parkop said the city was facing a health crises with the recent spike in Covid-19 cases as well as deaths reported in recent weeks.
“Under the Pandemic Act 2020, the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) will be conducting a city-wide awareness and enforcement of Covid-19 protocols to be strictly adhered to by residents and the public at large,” he said.
