Military to benefit from help

 THE Papua New Guinea Defence Force is set to benefit under the Australia-PNG Defence Cooperation on Manus Island.

Under the programme, the Australian High Commission said the Australian force started a Halivim Poroman exercise at Lombrum base on Augt 9. The exercise involves the refurbishment of married quarters valued at more than K2.5 million. 

The project was scheduled to use contractors, supplies and equipment from PNG for the work that is expected to end in December.

The Australians have been working with locals to repair the dam at Lombrum.

In addition, the crew of HMAS Choules is working with patrol boat crew from the PNG Defence Force to conduct training in specialist areas such as navigation and ship handling.
