MILITARY personnel have been urged to support their call of duty in two upcoming significant event in the country.
Defence Force commander Brig-Gen Gilbert Toropo said they had a role in the national election as well as the hosting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit next year.
Speaking at the 66th Battalion birthday celebration of the First Royal Pacific Island Regiment (1RPIR) at Taurama Barracks last Friday, Toropo said PNGDF had to assist the police force in these events.
“Our core task is to support the Royal PNG Constabulary in ensuring that we provide an environment conducive for our citizens so that they go to the election to vote for their leaders without fear of being intimidated,” he said.
“PNGDF is well on track to provide once again an environment conducive to attract our leaders to come and partake in Apec Leaders’ Summit that will be hosted by PNG.”
