Milne Bay attend event for first time

ATHLETES from the Huhu local level government (LLG) area in the Alotau electorate will represent Milne Bay province for the first time at the PNG Games in Port Moresby.
The event kicks off this afternoon with the opening ceremony.
Reports from Alotau confirmed that 200 participants, including 50 officials from the LLG would represent the province.
The athletes from the area were the only team that showed up and organised themselves to be part of the selection trials.
Only 14 athletes who will be taking part in touch arrived by boat on Monday while the rest of the team are expected to arrive today on special flights.
The team are currently camping at the Sacred Heart School in Hohola.
Team Milne Bay received a SOS package of K52,000 from Samarai-Murua MP Gordon Wesley on Tuesday.
The funds will assist the team purchase uniforms and return fares.
Former Huhu LLG president Lelena Metoa said from Alotau that he was impressed with the financial support.
Metoa also called for unity amongst the provincial leaders in getting behind the team.
He added that the games would expose the young athletes and unearth local talents therefore, it was important for the province.
Other sporting teams that had not arrived in Port Moresby yesterday were medal hopefuls in soccer, netball, darts, athletics and paralympics.
