Milne Bay schools told to let students attend classes
The National, Friday 15th February, 2013
SCHOOLS in Milne Bay have been told not to refuse students who do not pay up front or pay only part of the required project fees.
Deputy governor and Education chairman in the Milne Bay provincial government James Rubeni said the provincial assembly in its last meeting in December decided to re-introduce the project fees after the previous government abolished it for the 2012 school year.
He said the provincial government had set K200 as the project fee.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill last Thursday announced that the national executive council had decided to introduce project fees for schools nationwide with the maximum of K200 for a student.
The project fee levels introduced by the provincial government are: K30 per child for all elementary grades, K50 per child for students in Grades 3-8, K200 per child for students in Grades 9 and 10, K100 per child for TVET students and K200 per child for students in Grade 11 and 12.
