Mine hosts safety week, inspectors
The National, Friday March 28th, 2014
RAMU NiCo Management (MCC) Ltd launched its National Mining Safety Week activities on Monday in Madang and its two sites.
The launching was done by chairman, Zhao Shimin.
Staff at the Kurumbukari Mine and Basamuk Refinery had worked hard to ensure that activities were focused on the themes: “Improve understanding for safe practice” and “Sustaining life through safe work practices”.
KBK mine manager Graeme Skelton said the great thing about the week was that it provided “a fantastic opportunity to take meaningful steps on the journey to fixing deficiencies in the safety culture”.
“It provides an opportunity to learn new skills and experience activities that will assist in improving workers capacity to work safely,” he said.
Skelton said one of the activities was the leaders’ safe practice improvement initiative.
Ramu NiCo on Monday hosted two inspectors from the Mineral Resources Authority to take part in its activities at KBK Mine site.
