THE Porgera Joint Venture has donated 20 desks to the Mungulep Elementary School as it continues its assistance to education in Enga.
The donation comes under the company’s better schools programme which aims to provide resources to special mine lease schools. Children who had to sit on the floor will enjoy their new desks.
Corporate social responsibility operations and governance manager Graeme Nielsen told the students to take education seriously and use the materials properly if they wanted to have a good future.
“The PJV is aiming to place more than 200 twin seat desks in schools by the end of 2019,” he said.
“This donation of 20 desks compliments the 40 already delivered in schools at Aumbi and Alipis and will help students greatly.”
Nielsen encouraged students to relay the same message to their parents. The PJV also donated chairs and 120 tables children can take home to assist with completing homework.
Mungulep Elementary has 168 students and six teachers, including a volunteer teacher.
