Minigir people missing out

The National, Tuesday 28th Febuary 2012

I WRITE on behalf of my beloved Minigir speakers in Kokopo district.
We have been dubbed the last frontier and have yet to receive proper roads, electricity or health facilities.
Despite contributing significantly to the province’s copra and cocoa exports, it seems we are always the forgotten lot and our struggles year in year out remain the same.
Our roads from Rainau plantation to Bilur and Marmar villages have been in a bad state for more than 20 years.
We still use kerosene lamps even though we are not that far from Kokopo compared to Toma or Vunapalding, which have electricity.
Recently-settled places such as Gelagela and Sikut also seem to have progressed more rapidly.
Our neighbours from Bitapaka, where our Governor Leo Dion hails from, seem better off than us.
I urge all my Minigir brothers and sisters to cast our votes for the right leaders in this coming election.
We have been overlooked for too long.
