Ok Tedi Mining Ltd (OTML) and PNG Civil and Identity Registry (PNGCIR) have signed an agreement to carry out the National Identification (NID) project in Western.
The signing on Friday took place between Minister for National Planning Richard Maru, Civil PNGCIR acting registrar-general Michael Kumung and OTML managing director and chief executive Peter Graham. Graham said the agreement would outline the partnership between the two organisations.
It aims to make registration more accessible for the employees, contractors and community members.
“The benefits of the ID card are many,” Graham said.
“For the individual, it will help with many transactions that require proof of identity. For Government, it will assist with planning and delivery of services.
“For Ok Tedi, it was an easy decision to work with PNGCIR.
“NID registration began in Tabubil for OTML employees, contractors and the community on July 9.
“To date, registrations have covered more than 600 employees, 700 contractors, 130 public servants and others.
