Minister: Address discipline in police dept

DISCIPLINE needs to be addressed to have accountability and transparency within the police force, says Police Minister William Onglo.
“You are the leaders, we have to bring back our discipline and once we get our discipline back, I am sure our accountability, investigations and real police work will come into play,” he said.
“If we have discipline, everything else will fall in line, discipline should not be an issue because discipline is the police force.”
Onglo said police investigations and prosecutions were important and needed to see more training for officers within the criminal investigation divisions and prosecution units across the country.
“For police investigation and prosecution, we will be looking at getting courses running for 18 months so we train all the police officers.”
Onglo said a plan was being put together for investigation and prosecution training for police personnel.
He said as minister, he was responsible for effective policies and implementing them to improve police performance and address the law and order issues in the country.
“We have to look the police investigations to the prosecution, we have to look at the connectivity to Police Headquarters because as it is as if everyone is working in isolation.” Onglo said it was crucial that the constabulary was a cohesive and effective force.
