HIGHER Education Minister Wesley Raminai says criminal and governance matters in institutions of higher learning should be referred to relevant State agencies for appropriate action.
“This was one of the five recommendations to address issues of an investigation into allegations against a former University of Goroka (UoG) council and management,” he said.
Raminai said the recommendations of the Wemin report presented to him last October included:

  • THE council and management team prioritise plans and implementation of recommendations;
  • ANY criminal and other governance matters must be referred to the relevant State agencies for appropriate actions;
  • THE management and staff members implicated to be dealt with in accordance with the UoG Act 1997, status and staff disciplinary rules and processes; and,
  • WEMIN council to commence reform process immediately to build UoG to be a specialised teachers training university in Papua New Guinea and Western Pacific.

University chancellor Joe Wemin said an investigation was part of any organisation’s good and healthy process that come under public authorities.
“Problems can be identified to be rectified for the betterment of the public institution,” he said.
“Therefore, we have done our investigation and completed the report and submitted that report to the minister.”
