POLICE Minister Jelta Wong received a briefing from Police Commissioner Gary Baki and senior officers on the operations of the force.
Gazelle MP Wong and the police hierarchy met in Kokopo last Friday.
He was briefed on the functions of a police minister and the demarcation of responsibilities, the corporate plan, overview of the constabulary and Apec.
He met provincial police commanders, Australian Federal Police officers and the two deputy police commissioners.
Wong thanked them for the briefing.
ENB Governor Nakikus Konga welcomed meeting in the province at a time when they were witnessing an increase in armed holdups.
He said the constabulary was faced with a challenging task to deal with lawlessness.
Konga said police officers were public servants and were answerable to the government but they must stay out of politics.
