Minister: Control measures will stop Covid-19

IMMIGRATION and Border Security Minister Westley Nukundj has assured people that control measures implemented will stop the Covid-19 from entering the country.
Nukundj was responding to concerns raised by National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop about international flights and the resumption of domestic flights to Port Moresby from border provinces.
“The virus is not going to come in because we have measures in place and we can assure people that they will be safe,” he said.
He met Parkop and Motu Koitabu Assembly chairman Dadi Toka Jnr on Monday and told them people would be safe as long as they followed the rules of staying at home, washing their hands, not chewing betel nut and maintaining social distancing.
“We can trace all the expatriates and Papua New Guineans travelling in from overseas,” he said.
“We have all their details, so we can easily trace everyone.”
Parkop suggested that there should be increased surveillance and control in Port Moresby.
“It’s important that control mechanisms are at the border but, importantly, in Port Moresby as the distribution point for our country,” he said.

  • Mr Nukunjs home province is lost and there is no proper awareness. People are going about minding their own business. They are not really concerned about the virus.
He should come home and tell his people as well.
