Minister: Dept, board must cooperate

LANDS Minister Benny Allan says the department and the National Capital District Physical Planning Board must work together to avoid problems arising from developments in Port Moresby.
He pointed out the development over the storm water drainage on Wards Road as an example of the need to work together.
“We haven’t been working closely with NCD Physical Planning board and we need to improve on these issues,” Allan said.
“I agree with NCD Governor Powes Parkop that we are not working closely with them. There is no proper coordination between the department and NCDC and we need to improve on that.
“Although we have a physical planning board representative, sometimes there is no good working relationship between the two organisations.”
He said many people had been attacking the department.
“We are trying everything possible to get the department on track after so much negativity. Let’s stop pointing fingers,” he said.
He said it was the decision of the NCD physical planning boards and the NCD building board.
“But we have now in the interest of all stakeholders decided to take corrective measures on these issues.”
“I’m urging the developer to cooperate. They have to respect the law of this nation.”
