Minister disgusted

MINISTER for Community Development, Youth and Religion Wake Goi says he is disgusted and concerned with the two rape incidents reported in The National yesterday.
The newspaper reported yesterday about a court case where a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man at a residence in Gerehu on Sept 24, 2016.
“The level of parental ignorance towards their children when the children are drinking in their home is completely unacceptable,” Goi said.
“It also concerns me that parents are allowing young people, particularly underaged children, in this case, a 17-year-old girl, unsupervised to be alone with her male friends drinking alcohol till very late in the night.
“The Lukautim Pikinini Act 2015 provides a clear direction for parental responsibility for children under the age of 18.”
Goi also urged police to arrest and prosecute parents of all children who were victimised by their parents’ negligence.
“It is the parents responsibility to ensure that their children are safe, particularly the underage children.”
