Minister encourages police officers to show pride, discipline in communities
POLICE Minister Jelta Wong has urged police officers to provide leadership in local communities.
Wong urged them to be vigilant in their work and be safe.
“Our country needs you to show the discipline and pride of the constabulary,” he said.
“Don’t be (just) a statistics.
“Be the leaders in the community, uphold the law and be nice to your fellow countrymen and women,” he said.
Wong said the constabulary had come under scrutiny because of poor conduct and discipline of a few officers.
“It is now time to turn the page. You must think of the pride and image it (the police force) has portrayed over the (past) 126 years.”
He said he was working on projects to lift the morale of officers.
“I cannot do this alone.
“All I ask from you is to uphold the law with integrity, courage and humility.”
Wong, who is Gazelle MP, advised the people of the district to bear with him as he puts the right people in the right places.
“People with the drive to push our district forward,” he said.
“We have successfully got some contracts in place to finally fix our roads that were fast deteriorating.
“I will continue to push for our province to be innovative, so we can all share the benefits of education, health and agriculture which we have missed out for so long.”
