TOURISM, Arts and Culture Minister Emil Tammur says he is pleased with the National Cultural Commission’s (NCC) achievements last year.
He made the remarks at the launch of NCC’s operational plan 2020 and national cultural events calendar 2020 on Monday.
“In times of limited resources, the Government will allocate available resources to performing agencies and I’m proud to say that NCC is one such agencies,” Tamur said.
“I wish to congratulate you all for the successful delivery of your programmes in 2019. Despite funding shortfalls, staffing shortfalls, despite leaky roofs and burrowed space, NCC has pulled through another year (2019) with some startling results,” he said.
He said the number of key projects delivered included:

  • THE Raunraun Theatre in Goroka;
  • NCC corporation plan;
  • NCC website;
  • A HOME for National Film Institute;
  • MAINTENANCE of Institute of PNG Studies building;
  • ORGANIZATIONAL restructure (approved by Department of Personnel Management);
  • INAUGURATION of many new cultural festivals; and,
  • STAFF housing.

Tamur said while many government departments and agencies were rushing around to finalise their reports, NCC delivered its 2019 achievement report in December and was ready to take on 2020.
“We will continue to achieve success if we continue to stay positive, stay united and take initiatives,” he said. “Cultural events are very important.”
