WEWAK MP Jim Simatab has acknowledged the churches and non-governmental organisations for partnering the government to deliver health services to the people of Wewak and East Sepik in the last two decades.

Simatab, who is also Correctional Service Minister, said the Catholic and Seventh-Day Adventist churches and Save the Children under its East Sepik women and children health programme, had made significant contribution towards improving the health of the people and should be commended for their efforts.

He was speaking at the opening of Catholic-run Boikin aid post new maternity ward last Friday.

Catholic health services secretary Sr Celine Yakesere, was critical over the lack of adequate support from the government to the church to provide basic health services, including increased manpower.
