Minister raises concerns on PMV issues
TRANSPORT and Infrastructure Minister William Samb says the Government will engage with relevant stakeholders, both in the public and private sector, to address the challenges facing the land transport sector, particularly public transport.
Samb said this in response to series of questions from Markham MP Koni Iguan in Parliament.
Iguan asked Samb to clarify whether the Transport Ministry and the Transport Department had any plans to address the issues concerning road-worthiness of public motor vehicles (PMVs).
“We have seen a lot of accidents along our highways and as well as our towns and cities and some of these buses and PMVs are not road worthy,” he said.
“These are issues needed to be addressed by the Government to ensure road worthy cars are used for public transport.”
Samb agreed that having roadworthy vehicles on the road was important in ensuring the safety of people’s lives.
“Ensuring roadworthy vehicles on the road is the responsibility of Road Traffic Authority (RTA) and traffic police,” he said.
“I will task my department and the agencies responsible to work together with other key stakeholders both in the public and private sectors to address this issues.”
