FISHERIES and Marine Resources Minister Dr Lino Tom says the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) is striving to transform Morobe into a fisheries hub.
“To do that, the NFA is embarking into bigger fishery projects,” he said.
Dr Tom said this at the opening of a four-in-one double classroom at Arifiran Primary School in Markham by the NFA on Friday.
He said the classroom opening signified the continuous community-based support that the NFA was continuing to provide to communities.
Dr Tom said the Wagang fisheries wharf that NFA would build would drive economic returns for the province and the country.
He said the commitment to build the classroom was made by the previous minister and “it is only proper for me to fulfil the commitment”.
“We should invest well in our children’s education because our children are our future,” he said.
“They will drive this nation forward when we are all gone.”
Dr Tom said more community-based projects would be rolled out in other provinces as well.
