Minister urged to look into appointments

Letters

IT was alleged last week that the Department of Personnel Management may have compromised the diligent appointment process to chair a selection committee in the absence of substantive secretary, who is still on 15 months suspension, to make permanent appointments of two vacant deputy secretaries’ positions within the Commerce and Industry Department.
There is also a conflict of interest with one being the current acting secretary to be confirmed for the deputy post without merit.
Unless and until the substantive secretary on contract is technically terminated by due process through the National Executive Council and effected by gazettal instruments signed by the head of state, no selection and hearing should take place.
No selection and appointments should be made in haste.
I call on the Public Service Minister Soroi Eoe to step in and weed out the prevalent cronyism entertained by his department.
