ENGA Mioks registered their first win of the Digicel Cup season with a 20-14 victory against Hela Wigmen at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.
The Wigmen trailed at 2-20 till the 60th minute when they scored their first try.
The Mioks dominated the three quarters of the match as their spine of Noel Joel, Joseph Karara and Robin Soga took charge of their attack.
The Kroton-sponsored Wigmen registered first points through Solomon Pokari’s penalty goal in the 11th minute.
However, the Mioks scored the first try through prop forward Layton Lipu who ran through a gap after a good ball from Karara.
A successful conversion from Soga saw them lead 6-2. The Mioks extended their lead two minutes before halftime when winger Joel William took an intercept from Pokari’s pass and ran 90m to score.

Soga converted the try and kicked the penalty goal as the Mioks led 14-2 at halftime. The Mioks maintained control in the second half as the Wigmen’s ball security failed to improve. The Enga Government-sponsored Mioks scored again in the 43rd minute when fullback Sylvester Bulu took an intercept and ran 70m before centre Spiro Thomas crossed over in the corner in the next play. Soga’s conversion extended their lead to 20-2.
