THE last round of the Digicel Cup regular season will see competition leaders Enga Mioks facing the Chimbu Warriors in Madang tomorrow.
Both sides are in Madang and set to play the first Digicel Cup match in the provincial capital.
Mioks coach Timothy Lepa said his side were focused on doing what they had to do to win before thinking about the minor premiership.
Lepa said Warriors were a better side than their position on the ladder suggested and had warned his players not be be complacent.
“We know the Warriors have had a tough season but they are still a dangerous opponent for us as I’m sure they’ll be looking to end their season on a positive note,” Lepa said.
Lepa said his side were disappointed with their loss to the Lae Tigers two rounds ago but rebounded with a 28-20 win over the Port Moresby Vipers in Wabag last Sunday.
“We’ve been consistent this year and played a good standard of football and we’re hoping to build on that heading into the finals.”
Lepa gave his side a clean bill of health apart from SP PNG Hunters forward Baundo Aba who was unable to play because he was still recovering from a long-term injury.
The Mioks beat the Warriors 28-6 in round 9 in Wabag and are expected to see off the Simbus on neutral territory.
Fans of both teams are expected to travel in from the provinces while local rugby league fans are expected to fill Ron Albert Oval for the clash.
In the round’s other notable fixtures, the Goroka Lahanis can lock up fifth place and a finals spot with a win over the Vipers in Goraka while the Hela Wigmen, who still have a chance to sneak into the finals have to beat the Waghi Tumbe in Port Moresby on Sunday.
The match of the round is likely to be the match at Kalabond Oval between the Agmark Gurias and the Tigers.
A win for the Gurias will guarantee they finish either first or second depending on how the Mioks fare in Madang.
