THE Enga Mioks fought back to force a share of the points in their 12-12 Digicel Cup round-three draw with Waghi Tumbe at the Lae Rugby League Ground on Sunday.
With ball handling errors by both sides, it took 26 minutes for Tumbe to open the scoring.
A Tumbe set move inside the Mioks’ territory saw winger Charlie Kaipel scoring an unconverted try for a 4-0 lead.
It took the Roger Laka-coached Mioks almost the entire first half to score their opening points through an unconverted try on the edge following a penalty for a high tackle by Tumbe.
Both sides went into the break level (4-4).
Tumbe began the second half on the front foot with an unconverted try by former Lae Tiger Casey Dickson after the Mioks were penalised for an illegal strip.
The Jiwaka government-sponsored Tumbe jumped to a 12-4 lead after Dickson bagged his second try durign the second half.
Five-eighth Saki Peter failed to add the extra two points.
Momentum then shifted to the Mioks when Tumbe captain Joe Frank was sin-binned.
Mioks hooker Woods Kawage scored a try and five-eighth Maya Clark made sure of the conversion to close the gap to 10-12.
An infringement 35m out from Tumbe’s posts allowed Clark to kick the penalty goal and force a draw.
