Work on the review of the National Broadcasting Corporation Act must continue and it is the responsibility of the board and management to ensure this happens, Minister for Information and Communication Jimmy Miringtoro says.

Miringtoro told The National that he has yet to receive a copy of the draft review of the NBC Act. The Constitutional and Law Review Commission in June 2014 had begun the work of reviewing the National Broadcasting Corporation Act with a view to privatise certain areas of the organisation.

Amendments to the law in 2010 were designed for changes in relation to TV and the status from corporatisation into part privatisation and for sustainability.

The review would enable the National Broadcasting Corporation NBC to have powers to own private companies including the proper establishment and administration of the television station Kundu 2 (now NBC Television).

Minister Miringtoro said the NBC Act was the book that contained standards.

“There are laws that guide NBC’s management, the board and the staff,” he said.
