Mistakes cost team: Solien

HUMID conditions and forced errors were evident in the Central Dabaris 32-34 loss to the Goroka Lahanis in Sunday’s round-five Digicel Cup clash in Lae.
Dabaris coach Bagelo Solien told The National yesterday that despite a good experience in their first away match this season, errors had cost them points.
“It was our ball control, we lost the ball early in a couple of tackles,” he said.
“We gave away possession around the halfway mark so we gave them the advantage to come back into the game.
“It was hot in Lae which affected us a bit but our dropped balls invited them back into the game. Defensively, we were good because we had stepped up over the last two to three games.
“But our mistakes gave the Lahanis repeat sets and some of our guys got tired in defence and weren’t able to hold up.”
Solien said the team’s first away game this season was a unique experience “from a coaching and management perspective”.
“You want guys isolated from distractions before the game so the protocols help to keep a tab on the guys and it didn’t affect our preparations but helped,” he said.
“The only downside is we can’t mingle with our supporters so it kind of takes away that sentimental feeling in the side.”
