ABDOULLAH Mitiche won Port Moresby Road Runners’ 11.6km race in 47:10 at the University of PNG campus last Saturday.
James Gurumi was second in 52:52. Daniel Salu won the 5.8km race in 23:39.
Andrew Elborn was second, and Stephanie Albert was the fastest female.
Joe Kaikai made a triumphant return to win the 2.6km sprint in 9:58.
Mitiche, wishing to avoid any farewell party had invited friends and colleagues to join him for his final run with the POMRR before returning to Europe.
Rather than sit and eat, Mitiche wanted all to join in and share his joy of running.
And as he thundered across the line with his characteristic final sprint, it was hard to miss the fact that he was enjoying it.
Always positive and encouraging, Mitiche led a midweek training group on ever longer courses in and around town and has been the epitome of the POMRR motto: “run for your life”.
Next Saturday’s races leave from Kila Police Barracks at Gabutu at 5pm for races over 1.8km, 5 and 10km.
