Mixed results for bowling team

PAPUA New Guinea  lawn bowls team are slowly picking up in the pairs and triples matches at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
Speaking from New Delhi, team manager Kiliwi Nabo said the men’s team were doing well, especially the pair team of Tony and Ruben Soten.
He said the pairs team have won four of their five games so far.
The PNG duo defeated Scotland, the Cook Islands, Norfolk Islands and Botswana and the lost in a tie-breaker to Canada.
Nabo said the triples team of Eric Kaisa, Solie Piba and Lucas Roika won two games and lost three.
They defeated Norfolk Islands and Jersey but lost to England.
The pairs and triples match continued last night and the results were not available before press time.
Nabo said they were not expecting medals but were sure of giving bowls super powers, England, Australia and Canada, a run for their money.
Lawn bowls rose to prominence in 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand, where Geua Tau won the first ever gold medal in singles event.
