MOROBE Mining Joint Venture (MMJV) has put off all queries on the extension of the mine’s operation until a review of the memorandum of agreement (MoA) between the government, MMJV and landowners later this year.An extension of mine operations from seven years to more than 20 years was disclosed by Nakuwi Landowners Association president Rex Mauri in a bid to negotiate for a new Special Mine Lease (SML) for the mine. The MoA that was signed was for a seven-year mine life but since an extension has been made, Nakuwi landowners are seeking to negotiate a new SML with the government.
A MMJV representative said all relevant issues will be discussed in the Hidden Valley MoA review later in the
year.
