DIGICEL PNG Ltd created another milestone in committing US$55,000 (K125,000) to Special Olympics PNG at a brief ceremony at the Nature Park last week.

Company chief executive officer, John Mangos said the money would go a long way to help “these upcoming athletes with their travel, accommodation costs and sporting programmes”.

Mangos said they were the first company to put their hands up to support the organisation since it was established in September, 2012.

He said the firm prided itself as a major sponsor of sports programmes and talents and backed different fields for able bodied elites and the Special Olympics was no different.

He said the company was a major sponsor of the Special Olympics in the Caribbean, Central America and Oceania.

SOPNG president Takale Tuna said the sponsorship was the first of its kind.

Tuna said that reflected the company’s ongoing partnership in the community.
