Mobile squad gets new uniforms
The National, Friday February 5th, 2016
THE MOROBE provincial government has provided the police Mobile Squad 13 with new uniforms to enhance their public image and encourage them to carry out their duties with pride.
Two MS 13 units under the leadership of Senior Corporal Bevan Gore received two cartons of uniforms from Governor Kelly Naru yesterday.
Lae lord mayor Koim Trilue, city manager Roy Kamen, provincial ministers Andrew Gena (Education) and Philemon Tomala (Fisheries) witnessed the presentation of the uniforms.
“Wear the uniform with pride and honour to instill public confidence in your appearances as the servant of the public,” Naru told the police officers.
“Inside those uniforms shall reflect humility to ensure the community that police is a friendly agency through self- discipline and restraint while carrying out their duties.
“Avoid being a rogue cop but instead demonstrate professionalism in your career to instill trust and confidence in the community,” Naru said.
Earlier, the provincial assembly helped police with vehicles, firearms and ammunition, houses and uniforms using a portion of provincial services improvement programme (PSIP) funds.
Naru assured the police that a portion of funding was set aside but there must be transparency in managing the funds to ensure they are appropriately spent on operational needs.
He said that despite limited PSIP funding (K10 million) from the National Government, the provincial assembly was mindful of how well it can manage it to achieve desired results.
Naru also applauded the Morobe police for ensuring a peaceful Christmas and New Year period.
